Cyanomethaneis an organic compound with the chemical formula CH3CN or C2H3N. It is a colorless transparent liquid with excellent solvent properties. It can dissolve a variety of organic, inorganic and gaseous substances and is infinitely miscible with water and alcohol. Cyanomethane can undergo typical nitrile reactions and is used to prepare many typical nitrogen-containing compounds. It is an important organic intermediate.
1. Chemical analysis and instrumental analysis
Cyanomethane has been used as an organic modifier and solvent for thin layer chromatography, paper chromatography, spectroscopy and polarography in recent years. Since high-purity Cyanomethane does not absorb ultraviolet light at 200nm to 400nm, one application being developed is as a solvent for high performance liquid chromatography HPLC, which can make the analytical sensitivity as high as 10-9.
2. Hydrocarbon extraction and separation solvent
Cyanomethane is a widely used solvent, mainly used as a solvent for extractive distillation to separate butadiene from C4 hydrocarbons. Cyanomethane is also used to separate other hydrocarbons, such as separating, isoprene and methylacetylene from hydrocarbon fractions. Cyanomethane is also used for some special separations, such as extracting and separating fatty acids from vegetable oils and cod liver oils, making the treated oil lighter, purer, and with improved odor, while the vitamin content remains unchanged. Cyanomethane is also widely used as a solvent in the pharmaceutical, pesticide, textile and plastic sectors.
3. Synthetic intermediates for medicines and pesticides
Cyanomethane can be used to synthesize intermediates for a variety of medicines and pesticides. In medicine, it is used to synthesize a series of important drug intermediates such as vitamin B1, metronidazole, triamterene, adenine in pesticides, it is used to synthesize pesticide intermediates such as pyrethroid insecticides and ethoxicarb.
4. Semiconductor cleaning agent
Cyanomethane is a highly polar organic solvent that has good solubility for grease, inorganic salts, organic matter and polymer compounds. It can clean grease, wax, fingerprints, corrosive agents and flux residues on silicon wafers. Therefore, high-purity Cyanomethane can be used as a semiconductor cleaning agent.
5. Other applications
In addition to the above applications, Cyanomethane can also be used as a raw material for organic synthesis, a catalyst or a component of a transition metal complex catalyst. In addition, Cyanomethane is also used in fabric dyeing and coating compounding, and it is also an effective stabilizer for chlorinated solvents.
