1. CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SPECIES
Lactobacillus plantarum is a beneficial bacterium that is found in natural environments, plant materials, as well as in the gastro-intestinal tract of humans and animals, human saliva etc. Lactobacillus plantarum is widely used in fermented foods, feeds, environment protectives, as well as in therapeutic health products for human use.
2. SELECTION AND TAXONOMY
Lactobacillus plantarum Lp-G18 was isolated from naturally fermented yogurt in the Ili region of Xinjiang, China. Lactobacillus plantarum Lp-G18 produces high strength glutamine synthetase, rather than the synthesized glutamine, this inner produced GS has much better bioavailability and will not suffer other gastric or bile salt pressure, have much better body feeling and health functions, like the muscle synthesis, weight management, immunity boost etc.

It belongs to the subspecies Lactobacillus plantarum Lp-G18 and is preserved in the China Center for Type Culture Collection with the accession number CCTCC.M. 2013690
